When Dreams have Orange Carpet and Dirty Walls

On Thursday, we signed papers for our first home. When we left, I felt a little like I did on my wedding day--excited, nervous, wondering what just happened, and relief that the planning + details were done.

On Friday, we were supposed to get the key, but it got stuck on the Fedex truck. Thankfully, the realtor made some magic happen and got a locksmith to go in and put in new locks so that we could get in! We ate our first meal in our new home and then got started on fixing it up by ripping out some carpet!

When we first began the house searching, I had a picture in my mind of the perfect first home. Affordable. Cute. Nice little neighborhood. Etc. Etc. Etc.

But, then, reality set in. The houses that met my all-the-things-I-want list were too pricey or more than we wanted to spend. The houses that were in our price range were in neighborhoods that I wasn't so sure about or they had many, many problems.

When I found our little house online, I wondered if this could be the little gem that we were waiting for. Yes, it needs TLC, but it's not super gross. No, it's not on the world's best and friendliest and cutest street ever, but it is on a quiet and safe street.

It was a bit of a crazy process (and long one!) to get the keys to our little home, but we stuck through the process and now own a little place with orange carpet (which we've already ripped out!) and a lots of little quirks.

This weekend, as I pulled out staple after staple left over from the carpet removal, I dreamt about the memories that would be made in this home--the people we would invite in, the babies that might be brought home, a place for Luke to learn and play, etc.

yep. That's our adorable new kitchen ;)

I know that's it is just a place with walls, but I am so thankful for it and excited to see it become our home--a place to invite people and memories in.
