Come on In

Even though the house already looks different than it did just a week ago, I wanted to give you a little tour of our what our abode looked like when we bought it.

This little 1167 square feet (yep, it's a petite, but sweet!) 1960's gem was just what we were hoping for.

It was below our budget, it needed a some TLC (but no major jobs), and it had the basics were were hoping for: 3 bedrooms, a garage, a yard, a large dining space, and a dishwasher. Can I tell you a secret? I was actually really happy that we got "stuck" with a small house--it encourages creativity, simplicity, and it's quick to clean!

We've already been digging in on the projects. So far, the carpet is out, the tiny bit of wallpaper was removed, the hand rails are gone, we've taken down the curtains, and painted a chalkboard wall.

Before we move in at the end of June, we hope to have the bedrooms and living areas painted, the floors cleaned up well (they are all original hardwood--except for the kitchen/dining area), a few recessed lights installed (the living room has NO lights), and trim repainted. So far, we are doing okay on time, but we've been over there every evening to get some baby-free work in :)

So, here's the house as we bought it (sorry the pictures are so bad!):

{kitchen}

{bathroom}

{living area}

{master bedroom}

{dining area}

So. Yep. The house definitely needed some little updates ;) We are already excited about how much the little changes (mostly ripping out gross carpet) have made a big impact!

  2. What a great house! I am also with you on the small house. We purposely bought a small house. My mom asked if we would move when we had more kids (just one right now!) and thought we were joking when we said no. Less time to clean it, and I think that small houses make close families :) Congrats on the house and have fun making it yours!

  3. Exciting! We close on our first house on Wednesday, so will be right behind you with home improvements. :)

    I nominated you for the Liebster Award. I had never heard of it, but was nominated recently. The details are on this post: http://theseaofttc.blogspot.com/2014/06/liebster-award.html. Have fun!

  4. so awesome - love fixer-uppers! you can make it exactly how you want it. our house back in the states is around 960 sq. ft. and two bedrooms. but i'm glad it's small - it will force me to get rid of a lot of stuff and keep it simple.
