Easy DIY Spring Art

I shared Marge's spring makeover yesterday, and today I'll share how I whipped up some easy art to brighten her up!

If you can glue and paint, you can make this artwork. Plus, I think the possibilities are endless! I made two trees and birds and branches, but you could easily make flowers, Easter eggs, hot air balloons, clouds, etc.!

I didn't take too many photos (okay, hardly any!) because my fingers where covered in mod podge, but here's the basics!

Supplies needed:

  • Blank canvas
  • Acrylic paint
  • Scrapbook/fun paper (you could use old book pages, wrapping paper, maps, postcards...)
  • Mod podge
  • Foam brush
  • Scissors

Directions:

Whip out your blank canvas and paint it. I used a layered look on one, but stayed more simple on the others! The sky's the limit with paint choices, textures, etc.

While you let it dry, decide what design you'd like to make. For the trees, I cut out a trunk and different-sized leaves from various extra paper I had laying around. For the birds and branches, I sketched a light template of the design onto the canvas to help me get a feel for the balance and size of the picture. Then, I cut out the branches and birds and pieced it together.

Arrange all your pieces on the canvas before gluing. Once you find the look you'd like, get gluing! Go ahead and make a mess!

Glue pieces onto the painted canvas and let it fully dry. Once dry, add another layer of mod podge (or a different sealer) to seal it.

That's it!

I also thought that adding a quote with letter stamps would look cute, but I couldn't decide what to put on it, so I left it blank :)

Do any of you have other cute ideas for simple and easy DIY spring art?
