Saturday Snack Attack: Berry Nutty Goodness

My first line of defense against the tight-pants monster (you can read more about that here) is to make better snacks. I'm a pro-snack person and enjoy munching in between meals. My go-to snack is usually granola bars (easy!), but it's hard to find bars without 100 ingredients and/or lots of sugar. The ones that are healthier for you are also a lot more expensive. So, I decided to try and make my own on-the-go snack. I've been enjoying this one during this past week and it is delicious! Not only that, but I feel so full when I'm finished with it (and I stay full). Sometimes I can't even finish it in one sitting!

Anyway...

Here was my criteria for the snack:
1. Be able to pronounce the ingredients
2. Include chocolate
3. Be satisfying and filling

1. Start with dried berries (I used cherries):

2. Throw in almonds:

3. Shoo your sneaky dog away:

4. Add some roasted sunflower seeds:

5. Add some dark chocolate chips for sanity (just enough to add sweetness):

6. Mix it all together:

7. Spoon 1/2 cup measurements into snack bags:

8. Think about how yummy (and easy) snack time will be this week:

Recipe:
Makes about eleven servings (1/2 cup each)

5 oz of dried fruit/berries
2 1/2 cups of almonds
1 cup (7.5 oz) Sunflower seeds
1 cup (8oz) Dark chocolate chips

Directions:
Mix all ingredients and put 1/2 cup servings into snack bags

I've got some other snack attack ideas whirling around--hope to share more with you soon!

  1. This is a keeper! I like how you added the chocolate for sanity. I'll be trying this one out. Thanks for sharing and thanks so much for visiting with me.
