April's Family of the Month: Meet the Blomgrens!

I'd like to introduce you to the Blomgrens.  They have recently received a referral (that means that have been matched with a child) for a little girl from South Korea.  They affectionately call her Sweet Pea.  Isn't that darling?  I'm so excited to have them as April's Family as the Month and would love for you to read a little more about them!

Q: Why did you decide to adopt?

A: For quite some time now, both of us have felt our hearts pulled to adoption.  As we grow in more awareness of God and what He desires for us as a family, and as our eyes are opened to the need for stability for so many children, we want to respond!

When we met in Nepal in 2001, we each already had a desire to set the lonely in families through adopting a child in need of a home.  As our relationship grew, so did the call that we were someday going to bring an orphan into our family!  Our motivation for adoption also stems from our stance on the importance of life.  In response to our belief and support of mothers who do not want their unborn child or cannot support their unborn, we feel adoption is standing in the gap for that child’s right to life.  Adoption is literally life giving for some babies--without the option of adoption, they may not live.

Q: Why did you choose South Korea?

A: After much prayer and conversation we had finally decided to adopt internationally and specifically from Asia, since we have such strong ties there.  It basically came down to the fact that we only qualified to adopt through South Korea!  It was like God was pointing at the S.Korea program and saying, that's where your baby is :) There were a few other countries in the mix but their adoption programs were somewhat unstable or had very long processes.

Q: What do you like to do as a family?

A: We love to be outdoors together!  It's so fun to explore something new outdoors and since we are in the military and have moved around quite a bit we have the blessing of always finding new things to do outside.  Some of our favorite outdoor things to do together are downhill ski, hike/walk, grill out and relax on our deck and, of course, go to our family cabins back in the Midwest where we hail from!  We also love to travel together.  If we had endless time and money, we'd be all over the map exploring new places!

Q: What are you most excited about when you bring Sweet Pea home?

A: Hmmm, this is a hard one!  So many things to be excited about bringing our Sweet Pea home.  I think the best thing will be just to have our family all together in one place--we'll be complete and not divided by an ocean.  It will be so wonderful to finally know her and to smell her and cuddle her (if she let us) and to see her mannerisms and watch her and Norah interact.  Oh so many things to look forward to with bringing her home, makes me smile!

Remember that 25% of Dulcitas sales goes toward the family of the month.  If you'd like to know more about all of this family of the month business, read about it here.
