Meet Georgie

When Georgie came to me, she was a bit of an ugly duckling.  Not much to say about her back then.  She was brown, dated, and boring.

Here she is in her former days:

Her top was bit scratched up so I stripped her down so that she would have a nice smooth finish.

I decided to paint her a soft, pretty gray and try my hand at glazing for the first time.  I wanted the glaze to simply accentuate the details, not overpower the piece.  I mixed some craft glaze that I bought at Hobby Lobby with some white and black paint until I mixed the right color.  I love how the glaze brings out her pretty details.

I decided against buying new hardware and spray painted her former hardware white.  Then, on a whim, I decided to glaze the hardware too.  I think it added a fun little touch!

Here she is now:

A few days after I had bought Georgie for thirty bucks, the guy told me he had a bedside table that looked just like her.  So, he brought that to me and I finished the little one just like her.

I'd love any input!

  2. Georgie is stunning and it was definitely a wise decision keeping the original hardware. Love how the aqua candlesticks "pop" against this. Very eclectic chic.

    Take care,
    Lisa

  4. I love the color and I have one similar sitting in my garage. Thinkin' I'll go gray like you did. I'm not sure what to sell it for, hmmm. I sell on CL too and I think maybe I ask too much but we know what went into creating/finding these pieces. On CL seems like everyone is looking for a bargain. If this were sitting in a high end boutique, I bet you would get an easy 600 for both pieces. Let me know what you do wind up selling it for. Good luck, it really is beautiful!

  5. I really love these pieces. If I had the room I would seriously consider buying them! I probably wouldn't accept less than 350-400 for the pair. They're probably worth more but I don't know if anyone would buy them for more because people are CHEAP. Good luck!

  13. Fabulous! i love the color. I have a similar piece sitting in garage. Trying to decide between gray or a blue-gray color. I am leaning more towards the gray now, the glazing really brought out those gorgeous details. Lots of work, but I wouldn't have any idea on pricing the furniture. Probabaly around $400. I hope you get some good advice from the more seasoned bloggers out here who sell furniture. Looking forward to spending some time reading your blog.
